- Chikan Republican Style Street
Chikan Republican Style Street, located on Minzu Road in Chikan District, Zhanjiang City, Guangdong Province, is the oldest area in Zhanjiang City. It was once one of the most developed commercial areas in Zhanjiang. Chikan District was originally just an ancient commercial port by the seaside, which had already taken shape as early as the Song Dynasty. Since the lifting of the maritime ban that lasted for more than 20 years during the Kangxi reign of the Qing Dynasty, maritime trade has rapidly developed. Merchants from Fujian, Zhejiang, Guangzhou, Chaozhou, and Qiongya have all come to Chikan for business by sea, and merchants from the Gaolei area have also started trading by land. Chikan has gradually formed a prosperous commercial port.
Due to being a former French colony, the architecture here has been greatly influenced by France. There are also many “Nanyang style buildings” in this area that blend European colonial style architecture from the late 19th and early 20th centuries with Lingnan arcade architecture. They are a product of the Eurasian “Nanyang” culture and have high historical, cultural, landscape appreciation, and economic development value. In addition to Western style buildings, the old city area also has winding alleys and Lingnan mansions of varying sizes. The arcade complex was once a glorious commercial street in the Guangzhou Bay era, showcasing the commercial tradition of the port city. The old style old streets and residential buildings are of great historical value for studying the historical process, commercial development, local customs, and folk culture of Chikan District, and are also rare cultural resources in the city.
In addition, “The Hidden Corner” was also filmed here, making Chikan Republican Style Street a popular check-in spot. The mottled walls and moss covered large bluestones here are some memories after the prosperity. For those who love history, culture, and natural scenery, this is a tourist attraction worth visiting.
- Huguangyan Scenic Area
Huguangyan is located in Huguang Town, Mazhang District, Zhanjiang City, Guangdong Province, with a total area of 38 square kilometers. The park is mainly composed of the geological landforms of Mount Mer, as well as various geological relics such as coastal landforms and structural geological landforms. It has a good natural ecology and rich cultural landscapes.
The core scenic area of the park, Huguangyan, is a typical representative of China’s Mal Lake and one of the best preserved volcanic crater lakes in China and even the world. It is also a famous volcanic ecotourism area in China. The park has a long history. As early as the Sui Dynasty, Buddhist monks built ancient temples such as Lengyan Temple and Baiyi Temple on the rocks. The cliff stone carving “Huguang Rock” inscribed by Li Gang, the Prime Minister of the Song Dynasty, remains.
Huguang Rock is surrounded by volcanic walls, with steep cliffs surrounding the lake. The volcanic rock layers and rhythms are clear. The lake water is as clear as a mirror, and the roots compete for stones to form a beautiful landscape painting. The ancient trees in the park are difficult to reach the sky, with ancient vines lingering and lush vegetation. There is a high-density negative ion area in the air, which can be called a “natural oxygen bar”. Walking on the lakeside, people feel relaxed and happy.
