The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding (hereinafter referred to as the “Panda Base”) is located at 1375 Panda Avenue, Chenghua District, Chengdu City. It is 10 kilometers away from the city center (Tianfu Square), about 30 kilometers away from Shuangliu International Airport, and about 70 kilometers away from Tianfu International Airport. The Panda Base is a world-renowned giant panda relocation protection base, scientific research and breeding base, science education base, and cultural tourism base, covering an area of 3.07 square kilometers. As an ecological demonstration project for the relocation and conservation of giant pandas, it is renowned for protecting and breeding endangered wildlife species unique to China, such as giant pandas and red pandas. Here, the mountains are lush with jade, the clear water is like a mirror, the forest waves are rippling, and the birds are singing in harmony. It is known as the “natural paradise of national treasures, our paradise on earth”.
For over 0 years, the Panda Base has overcome key technical challenges such as artificial breeding and management, reproduction and rearing, disease prevention and control, and population genetic management of giant pandas through a series of innovative scientific research work. It has built the world’s largest artificial breeding and ex situ conservation population of giant pandas, with a total of 244 individuals. In addition, it has the world’s largest captive population of red pandas, with over 160 individuals.
The Panda Base adheres to the guiding principle of equal emphasis on scientific research and tourism, and has formed a sustainable development model that integrates production, education, research, and tourism. Using landscaping techniques to simulate the wild ecological environment of giant pandas, the distribution of giant panda delivery rooms, panda breeding areas, scientific research laboratories, and panda hospitals is orderly, with several luxurious panda “villas” scattered in the mountains and forests. Pandas of different ages breed and thrive here, with young and old gathered in a peaceful and harmonious environment. The Panda Base has twice won the United Nations’ highest environmental award, the “Global 500”, and was named a national AAAA tourist attraction in 2006. Over the years, we have received hundreds of thousands of dignitaries and VIPs from the United Nations, heads of state, and other countries, with an annual peak of over 11 million visitors
